Shri Ravindra Chary
 

Born in a family rich in musical tradition, Ravindra’s musical instincts asserted themselves early. His father, Late Pt. Prabhakar Chary, a noted tabla player from Goa initiated his musical training in Harmonium, Tabla and Sitar. He continued to nurture his child,s prodigious potential and zeal for the Sitar placing him under the privileged tutelage of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan,. Later, young Ravindra moved to Mumbai where he studied under great sitar maestros like Pt. Pushparaj Koshti, Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan and Ustad Shahid Parvez which continues till today.

Highly acclaimed by critics and connoisseurs alike for his excellent command over laya and layakari, his Sitar recitals are crowned by an exposition that is at once melodious and rich and at times even complex. He has performed with great Indian musicians Exponents viz.Smt. Kishori Amonkar, Mridangam wizard Umalayapuram Shivraman, Ustad Sultan Khan, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Smt. Shama Bhate etc. on various Projects.His innate creative talent and enthusiasm for innovation has led him to perform with internationally acclaimed artists from diverse musical cultures viz. Salif Keita, Trilok Gurtu, Kai Echhart, Angelique Kidjo, Pacco Sairre, Kurdsi Eulgner, Robert Miles, at major music festivals.

His performance in several innovative albums viz. The Glimpse, African Fantasy, Beat of Love, Broken Rhythm etc. bear ample testimony to his sincere creative skill. Recipient of a fellowship from HRD, Govt. of India and the prestigious Surmani Award, Ravindra,s recitals have been broadcast on radio and television. He was also a lecturer in music at the Mumbai University. Ravindra has traveled extensively in India as well as UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Holland, Greece, Singapore, Belgium, France, Yugoslavia, USA, Canada, Luxemburg, Ireland, Hungary South Africa, Poland, Norway, Australia, New Zealand And Calidonia.

Some of the prominent festivalsin his credit: Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan, Mumbai, Swami Surdas Sangeet Sammelan, Calcutta, NCPA, Mumbai, Sangeet Ratna Ustad Abdul Karim Khan’s 50th Death Anniversary, Miraj, Sajan Milap, Mumbai, Swarmauli, Mumbai, Jugalbandi Festival organisd by Kimaya Foundation, Pune, Sur Sagar, Banglore, Teachers Jazz Festival with Trilok Gurtu, Mumbai, Samraat Sangeet Sammelan, Kavem Goa, Kala Ghoda Festival with Remo Fernandes and Trilok Gurtu, And Many Prominent concerts in abroad, The Royal Festival Hall, London etc. Untouched by the acclaim that has come his way, Ravindra still strives hard in his pursuit for musical excellence.
