Shri Santosh Sant

Santosh Sant and his music has the legacy, as he was born in a musician’s family of Gwalior. His father Late Shri Vasantrao Sant was a well known Vocalist from the ancient Gwalior Gharana. He took the musical impressions from his father, and then from Shriram Umdekar, a well known Sitar artist of Gwalior.His musical carrier blossomed, when he was encouraged by the great flute maestro Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, to come over to Mumbai, where he associated closely with the maestro. Since then, he is the “Gandabandh-Shishya” of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia.

He has performed in most prestigious music festivals of the country like Tansen Music Festival, Ustad Allauddin Khan Music Festival, Pt. Kumar Gandharv Music Festival, India International Center and many more. Besides this, he has accompanied his Guru Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia in the great music festivals of the world. He has rewarded with the Gold Medal by Deptt. of culture, Govt. of India and the Directorate General of All India Radio for his best performance in 1990. Also honoured with the title “Abhinav Kala Samman” by the Ministry of Culture Affairs, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.

His flute is a nice amalgamation of the Gayaki and Tantrakari. Is shows the gradual unfolding of the raga and its gravity, having Alaap, Jod and Jhala, the technical subtleties from his guru-gharana.
